Your breath came out ragged as you tried to stand. The world was hazy, spinning, insensible…

Rain pelted you, trying to claim you with its cold hand. A nail was driving itself into your forehead and your stomach ached, ached and churned with nausea.

You felt your feet slide. The ground rose before you, swallowing you with a gasp. Pain shot up your knee. Stupid rock. Scarlet fluid began to stain the wretched mud.

You couldn’t stop…you wouldn’t stop…if you stopped moving, you would die out here, cold and alone…

You smelled them, all around you. That horrific stench. They reeked of unburied corpses, of people who could not be saved. The titans’ perfume clung to your nostrils like a pack of famished wolves.

A thunderclap sounded in the distance, but you saw none of its guiding light.

Gasping, you tried to pick yourself up. It was no use. You slipped again, your face landing in the mud. Dirt wormed its way into your throat. You rolled over, retching.

For what felt like an hour, you lay there, shivering violently. The nail…it just wouldn’t go away. It was an incessant enemy that seemed impossible to even fight, never mind defeat. And your stomach…you felt like your internal organs were being squeezed through a straw.

Your whole body felt wooden. Each step took a decade. No, a century…

You collapsed again. The mud squelched in your boots, your pants, your everywhere. Corporal would have a heart attack if he saw you right now. Just for a second, a smirk grazed your lips.
